HYPERMEDIA 3D DANCE PERFORMANCE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Inspired by the distinguished nineteenth-century ballet that keeps captivating audiences from generation to generation, Larumbe Danza creates its own particular version of Swan Lake from its residence in Coslada. The result is a contemporary fable both absorbing the past with the original music by Tchaikovsky, and setting eyes on the future with its contemporary dance and 3D images. The story is told from the perspectives of two adolescents immersed in the twenty-first century’s social and economic revolution caused by the incursion of new technologies in our everyday life.
Even so, Larumbe Danza apply these very technologies, as they frequently do to begin their infinite fields of research. In their version of Swan Lake, Larumbe Danza proposes a reflection about the risks the enormous reach of these new technologies pose above all to the development, health, and security of today’s children and youth.
Our Swan Lake transports Odette and Siegfried along with their respective followers to the third dimension and a virtual reality. There, the two opposite personalities of Siegfried and Odette are contraposed in a constant debate. Siegfried is absorbed by the frenetic pace of everyday life in the big city with its proximity of social media and apps for just about everything. Odette enjoys a much quieter life with different priorities, more suitable for a forsaken era. Relying on her animal-like instincts, she has returned to a more spontaneous connection with the environment.
In the tolerance and symbiosis that exist between these disparate perceptions of the present, our version of Swan Lake is played out.
WE WILL HARDLY KNOW WHO WE ARE AND WHERE TO GO WITHOUT KNOWING WHO WE HAVE BEEN.
Siegfried is an extroverted adolescent without any complexes; he is very popular both amongst his peers and in the social media. Odette, the white swan, on the other hand, is a quiet girl, who withdraws into her rich, inner life full of fantasy, art and culture. She is bullied by her peers for her strange, anachronic demeanour and appearance. She finds refuge in a lake inhabited by swans.
The unexpected love that blossoms between the two catches Siegfried totally off guard. It also worries him that it could cause him to lose his social prestige. Clouded by his strive for success, he resorts to his technological know-how to create Odile, the Black Swan. This hologram of the ideal girl is an exact copy of Odette, only with an appropriate image that everyone would accept…
