HYPERMEDIA DANCE PERFORMANCE WITH DANCE AND 3D PROJECTIONS
Swan Lake was one of the 17th century’s greatest ballet pieces. Today, it keeps captivating audience at any age with its ingenious reflexion on good and evil.
This particular version by Larumbe Danza picks up the fable from contemporary perspectives and social problems. It replaces the oneiric ambience and fantasy characters with a 3D virtual reality enveloping some of the current generation’s best performers.
With the coming of the 21th century, the worldwide social and economic revolution implies the integration of new technologies in all aspects. Although this phenomenon is practically only in its initial phase, we can already grasp both the benefits and dangers it entails, as well as the future extent of them. Apart from this phenomenon, we consider that the transformation of our educational system, which is leaving our youth increasingly out of tune with society, also calls for your urgent attention.
Through a production that synthesises classical music with contemporary dance and 3D images, we present to the spectator a contemporary reflection holding vantage points both to the past and the future.
IF WE DO NOT KNOW WHO WE ARE, WE CANNOT EASILY KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING OR WHERE WE WANT TO GO.
Siegfried is an extroverted adolescent without any complexes; he is very popular both amongst his peers and in the social media. Odette, the white swan, on the other hand, is a quiet girl, who withdraws into her rich imaginary life. Books, paintings and the like make her live in a secluded world dominated by fantasies. Her way of being and her strange birdlike appearance are so oddly distinct from the established norms that she is ostracised and harassed by her adolescent peers.
Odette, however, finds refuge, comprehension, and peace in a lake inhabited by swans in the midst of a forest near the city. In this sanctuary the textures, smells, and behaviour of the natural world instil comfort in this human being whose animal-like instincts are still very much alive.
The unexpected love that blossoms between the two catches Siegfried totally off guard; the feelings and impulses Odette awakens in him completely undermine his beliefs and way of being.
Feelings of doubt, fear, frustration, and passion get mixed up in the midst of the social behaviour he shares with his friends, so diametrically different from that of the girl he loves.
As a consequence of his internal struggle, Siegfried decides to create Odile, the black swan. This hologram of his ideal girl is created in the image of Odette. However, her behaviour is compatible with the norms and standards that everyone in his circle will surely accept.
